September’s workshop covers ways to treat inflammation with a variety of modalities including alternative methods and nutrition. A dog may need anti-inflammatory treatments for a variety of reasons, including arthritis, skin, ear, eye, joint or bone disorders. NSAIDS and steroids aren’t the only options to control your dog’s pain. Learn a holistic approach to treating inflammation and relieving pain.
Inflammation refers to a sum of housekeeping activities in an animal’s body that is necessary to cope and repel pathogens and parasites, repair and maintain our cells and tissues, and regulate blood flow to organs based on ever changing needs. Major features of inflammation are redness, heat, swelling, pain, and loss of function. One cannot survive without an ability to mount an effective and finite inflammatory response, but too much of it can be disruptive or even damaging to normal organ function. Dr. Adam’s presentation will focus on explaining some of the major reasons behind this vital function, and ways to impact/regulate it with certain foods and nutritional supplements if it becomes excessive or counterproductive.
Workshops are held at Muttville Senior Dog Rescue, a nonprofit, 501(c)(3) organization dedicated to improving the lives of senior dogs. On a local level, Muttville rescues senior dogs and finds them new homes or gives them hospice. On a global level, Muttville provides information about caring for older dogs and support for people who do.
